AI has made it incredibly easy to close the gap between a rough thought and something that looks ready to go.

Give ChatGPT a half-formed campaign idea, and it can turn it into a sharp concept, compelling messaging, channel ideas, creative executions, and a presentation to sell it internally.

Suddenly, the idea feels real.

That's useful when the thinking is strong. It's dangerous when it isn't.

Because AI can polish almost anything. It can make an assumed customer insight sound convincing. It can make a generic angle feel strategic. It can fill gaps in your thinking so smoothly that you don't necessarily notice they were gaps in the first place.

And once an idea looks finished, we tend to start treating it like it is. The conversation moves from “Is this worth doing?” to “How do we make it happen?”

So add a step before production: make ChatGPT interrogate the idea, not improve it.

Try this prompt:

You are a senior marketing strategist. I want you to pressure-test an early-stage idea before I invest time in developing or producing it.

IDEA:
[PASTE YOUR IDEA]

CONTEXT:
[ADD ANY RELEVANT AUDIENCE, BUSINESS, CAMPAIGN, PRODUCT, OR MARKET CONTEXT]

Audit the thinking behind the idea. Assess:

- The problem it is meant to solve
- The audience, and the tension, need, or behavior it addresses
- The central premise or angle
- The value exchange for the audience
- What makes it relevant or distinct
- The proof, evidence, or reason to believe behind it
- Assumptions currently being treated as facts
- Missing decisions, constraints, or dependencies
- The strongest argument against pursuing it as currently framed

Then give me:

1. What is strong enough to keep
2. What is weak, vague, or unsupported
3. The questions I need to answer before production
4. Three materially different ways to strengthen or reframe the idea
5. A recommendation: proceed, revise, research further, or stop — with your reasoning

Be critical rather than helpful. Don't improve the execution or make the idea sound more polished. Assess whether the thinking underneath it is strong enough to build from.

The danger isn't that AI gives you a bad idea. It's that it can make one look ready before it is.

Happy prompting!
