Imagine a product that helps small businesses collect customer reviews. Once the reviews arrive, the owner might need to decide which ones belong on a product page, which reveal a problem worth fixing, and which customers to contact for a fuller story. Those are three different tasks, and each could spark a product idea of its own.
Start with the result your product promises, then follow the customer into the next hour, day, or week.
Don’t worry yet about whether the new idea belongs in your existing product. Look for a task with a clear beginning and an outcome someone would value.
Try this prompt:
Help me explore new product ideas by looking at what customers do after my product has done its job.
My product: [describe it]
The result customers get from it: [be specific]
The people who use that result: [describe them]
Imagine the next hour, day, and week after they get that result. What tasks might they need to complete? Separate likely tasks from assumptions we would need to check with customers.
Choose three of those tasks and invent a small companion product for each. Describe what the person would use it to do, what they would need to provide, and what they would have when they finished. Make the three ideas meaningfully different.
Pick the idea with the clearest task and the simplest first version. Explain what we would need to learn from customers before deciding to build it.
You may find that the most interesting idea starts where your current product ends. Take the strongest suggestion to a few customers and ask them to walk you through what they actually do next.
Happy prompting!

It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign
Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.
Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.
Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.
Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.
First-time spenders get a $5,000 match on the first $5,000 spent with code BEEHIIV5K. Terms apply.
