The clearest picture of who you should be targeting is already in your client list. Most marketers just never look at it systematically.

Add a description of 5-10 of your best clients using this format for each:

  • Industry and company size

  • What they came to you for

  • The outcome they got

  • Why you think they chose you over alternatives

  • How easy or hard they were to work with

Add it to this prompt:

You are a market research analyst. I want to identify the patterns across my best clients so I can sharpen my ideal client profile.

[Paste your client descriptions]

Now tell me:

1. What do the best ones have in common (beyond the obvious)?
2. What patterns appear in why they chose you -- the real reason, not the stated one?
3. What does a client description look like when it's a red flag in disguise?
4. Write a one-paragraph ideal client profile based only on this data

The ICP you end up with will be sharper than anything built from assumptions, because it's built from reality.

Happy prompting!
