Most journey maps sit in a deck somewhere, gathering dust. You built it, you know the stages, but when churn creeps up or upsells stall, it's hard to know which part of the journey is actually to blame.
The problem isn't that you don't know the journey. It's that you don't know which part of the journey is actually causing the outcome you're seeing. A 2% improvement at the wrong stage is wasted effort.
This prompt helps with that. You paste in your journey stages and name the business goal you're chasing — whether that's reducing churn, improving trial-to-paid conversion, or lifting upsell rates — and ChatGPT works through each stage to surface what's failing and what to do about it.
Try this prompt:
You are an expert customer experience strategist and conversion consultant.
I'm going to give you:
- My business goal
- My customer journey map
- The key touchpoints in each stage
Your job is to audit the journey and determine where the biggest opportunities or failures exist in relation to my goal.
Business goal:
[e.g. reduce churn, increase upsells, improve trial-to-paid conversion]
Customer journey:
- Stage 1: [name + touchpoints]
- Stage 2: [name + touchpoints]
- Stage 3: [name + touchpoints]
...
For each stage:
1. Assess how likely it is that this stage contributes to the problem (High / Medium / Low)
2. Explain why you reached that conclusion
3. Identify friction, confusion, missing expectations, or missed opportunities
4. Suggest one practical improvement with the highest potential impact
5. Explain how that change would influence the overall business goal
Then rank every stage from most critical to least critical.
Finally, tell me:
- Which single improvement would likely have the biggest ROI
- Which assumptions you're making because information is missing
- What additional data or metrics would help validate your recommendations
Challenge my assumptions rather than agreeing with them. If the problem is probably happening somewhere other than where I think, say so.
Happy prompting!
