A marketing idea can be worth pursuing and still be too expensive or demanding to take on in full.
If the team can’t build a personalized onboarding program, cutting it down to one mockup won’t solve that problem.
The better question is what the program was meant to achieve.
Perhaps the aim was to help new customers take the right first step. A short welcome email that directs people to one of three existing guides could serve that purpose on a smaller scale. It wouldn’t do everything the program could do, but it could help customers get started now.
Try this prompt:
We set aside this marketing idea because it is too big for us right now.
The original idea: [describe it]
What we wanted it to achieve: [desired change for the audience or business]
Why we cannot do the full version: [budget, capacity, time, or other constraints]
What we already have to work with: [content, channels, people, tools, or research]
Identify the core strategy behind the idea. Then suggest three smaller ways to pursue the same goal within our constraints. These should be workable approaches, not mockups or pieces of the original project made for display.
For each option, explain what we would do, what part of the original goal it could achieve, what we would give up, and what it would require from the team. Recommend the strongest option and suggest a first step we could take this week. Be honest if none of the smaller options would meaningfully serve the goal.
Judge the suggestions by the outcome they could deliver, not by how closely they resemble the original idea. If one has a worthwhile payoff at a manageable cost, you have a way forward. If none does, you have a clearer reason to leave the idea for later.
Happy prompting!
