ChatGPT now gives marketers the ability to create things that once required an agency or expert resources.

But those experts do more than follow a brief. They interpret it. They decide what the pages should contain, how users should move through the experience, which features are needed and how hundreds of small details should work.

When you ask ChatGPT to build from a rough idea, that interpretation still needs to happen. Otherwise, it will make those decisions for you, often without explaining them.

Before starting the build, use ChatGPT to explore what is possible, uncover the decisions you have not considered and translate your idea into a detailed brief.

Try this prompt:

I want to build: [describe your idea].

The intended audience and outcome are: [add context].

Do not start building yet. Act as the product strategist, designer and developer who would normally translate my high-level marketing brief into detailed requirements.

First:

1. Explain what could be built based on this idea, including a simple version and any useful possibilities I may not have considered.
2. Identify the decisions and requirements missing from my brief.
3. Ask me focused questions about the user journey, pages or screens, features, content, inputs, outputs, interactions and visual direction.
4. When I may not know the answer, explain the options and recommend the best choice.
5. Flag any assumptions, limitations or technical considerations.

Once we have worked through the questions, create a complete build brief. Include the purpose, audience, user flow, structure, features, functional requirements, design direction, content requirements and what should remain outside the first version.

Prioritize the simplest version that will prove whether the idea is useful.

Once the brief feels right, ChatGPT can use it to build the first version.

Happy prompting!
