AI can now help with almost every part of marketing: research, planning, analysis, copy, reporting, ideation, and more.
But “AI can do this” isn't the same as “AI should do this”.
Some work is low-risk and repeatable. Handing most of it to AI makes sense. Other work involves customer understanding, strategic trade-offs, brand risk, or decisions you're ultimately accountable for.
And then there's everything in between, where AI can do 80% of the work, but the remaining 20% needs you.
Instead of deciding task by task, use ChatGPT to map an entire workflow and work out where your attention will have the greatest impact.
Try this prompt:
You are an AI workflow strategist. Review the marketing workflow or project below and help me decide where AI should take the lead and where human attention matters most.
WORKFLOW/PROJECT:
[DESCRIBE THE WORKFLOW OR PASTE THE TASKS, PROCESS, OR PROJECT PLAN]
CONTEXT:
- Goal: [WHAT THIS WORK NEEDS TO ACHIEVE]
- Team: [WHO IS INVOLVED]
- Constraints: [TIME, BUDGET, RESOURCES, TOOLS, ETC.]
- Key risks: [BRAND, CUSTOMER, LEGAL, COMMERCIAL, OR OTHER RISKS]
For every task, assign it to one of four categories:
1. AI can complete with a light human review
2. AI can create the first draft or starting point
3. AI can support, but a marketer should lead
4. Human-only decision or approval
Return this as a table showing:
- Task
- Category
- Why it belongs there
- What AI should do
- What the human should do
- Main risk of delegating too much
- Minimum human review required
Pay particular attention to tasks involving strategic trade-offs, customer understanding, brand judgment, significant business risk, or accountability.
Then identify the 3-5 places where human attention is likely to have the greatest impact on the final outcome.
Don't keep humans involved by default. The goal is to remove unnecessary human effort while protecting the decisions and work where human judgment materially improves the result.
The goal isn't to delegate everything you can. It's to get your attention back for the work only you can do.
Happy prompting!
