Marketing judgment is built through reps. You look at a situation, decide what matters, make a call, then compare that call against stronger thinking. The problem is that most marketers only get that feedback after the work is live, expensive or visible.

ChatGPT can give you a lower-stakes practice loop. It can help define what good work looks like, challenge your reasoning, point out weak assumptions and suggest drills for the skills you need to strengthen.

Use it before you ask it to produce the work.

Try this prompt:

Act as a senior marketing coach helping me build better judgment.

The skill I want to improve: [strategy, positioning, messaging, creative direction, analysis, prioritization, etc.]

Give me a realistic marketing scenario to assess. Include enough context for me to make a decision, but do not give me the answer yet.

After I respond, review my thinking in four sections:
1. What I noticed correctly.
2. What I missed or over-weighted.
3. What a more experienced marketer would consider.
4. One practice exercise to strengthen this skill.

Be direct, specific and educational. Do not rewrite my answer for me until after you critique my reasoning.

AI is useful for output. It is even more useful when it helps you become better at judging the output.

Happy prompting!
