By now you’re likely very familiar with ChatGPT’s bland, generic content.

But it’s not AI’s fault.

Most people feed it basic prompts and then wonder why the output sounds like a high school essay.

If your content’s flat, here’s why and what to do about it.

1. You didn’t set the tone

ChatGPT isn’t a mind reader. If you don’t give it a voice, it defaults to generic.

The fix? Tell it how to sound.

Use this prompt:

You are a copywriter with a [INSERT TONE—e.g. bold, witty, no-fluff] voice. Rewrite the content below to match that tone. Keep it sharp and avoid filler.

Content:

2. You didn’t give it structure

When there’s no shape, ChatGPT rambles.

If you want something clear and punchy, tell it exactly what format to follow.

Use this prompt:

You are a content strategist. Turn the content below into a structured blog post with a strong hook, clear sections, and a short closing.

3. You didn’t give it an edge

Surface-level input leads to surface-level output.

You need a story. A stat. A sharp opinion. Something with bite.

Use this prompt:

Add a strong example, stat, story, or angle to the content below. Make it more engaging, less generic, but stay true to the core message.

If you want your content to stand out, then give ChatGPT something to work with.

Happy prompting!
