Imagine handing ChatGPT $1,000 and one job: grow your business. It has to spend every dollar. What would it choose for your brand?

This is a useful thought experiment, even if you never follow the plan. A tight budget forces trade-offs. ChatGPT might put money behind a channel you’ve overlooked, skip one you’ve always relied on, or spot a cheaper way to reach the same customer.

The interesting part is its reasoning. Once you can see the bets it’s making, you can test them against what you know about your customers and your business.

Try this prompt:

Imagine you have exactly $1,000 to grow my business over the next 30 days. This is a thought experiment: I want to see what you would choose and why.

My business: [WHAT YOU SELL]
My website: [URL]
My target customer: [WHO THEY ARE]
My main goal: [SALES, LEADS, SIGNUPS, ETC.]
What I’ve tried so far: [BRIEF NOTES]

Allocate every dollar of the $1,000. Choose the activities yourself; don’t split the budget evenly just to cover more channels.

For each bet, tell me:
- How much you’d spend and what you’d do
- Why you chose it over other options
- What result you’d expect to see in 30 days
- What assumption could make the bet fail

Make sure the amounts add up to exactly $1,000. Then tell me which choice you think I’ll find most surprising, and what information would change your plan. If you can’t access my website, ask me to paste the relevant details.

You may disagree with every choice. That’s still useful: now you have a sharper reason for the choices you’d make instead.

Happy prompting!
