You do not need to become a technical SEO specialist to work on AEO. You do need to know what to ask your web dev to check.

Important content should be publicly accessible, crawlable and indexable. Key information should exist as readable page content, supported by sensible internal links and an up-to-date sitemap. Relevant search crawlers should not be blocked accidentally.

Structured data can help search engines understand certain information and qualify pages for search features, but there is no special piece of “AI schema” that guarantees inclusion in an answer.

Try this prompt with web search enabled:

Perform a high-level technical AEO review of this public website: [URL]

Check what you can verify publicly about:
- Access to important pages
- Search indexing
- Robots.txt rules affecting major search and AI-search crawlers
- Sitemap availability
- Internal links to key pages
- Whether important brand, product and service information appears as readable page content
- Relevant structured data, product feeds or business profiles

Separate confirmed findings from items that require a technical specialist or access to webmaster tools.

Create a short checklist I can send to my SEO or web team. Do not recommend unsupported AEO files, markup or technical hacks.

Technical access will not make weak content worth citing. It simply ensures your strongest information has a chance to be discovered.

Happy prompting!

How to get ChatGPT to recommend your brand

Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini who to shortlist, and those answers name a small set of brands. This session shows how that shortlist gets built, where you sit against your competitors right now, and how you can make sure you're the top recommendation.
