A simple product concept is easy to imitate. A meal-planning app, for example, can add recipes, shopping lists, and an AI assistant. Competitors can add those features too.
The harder-to-copy part may sit outside the product.
→ A dietitian’s method for helping families handle picky eating could shape how the plans are built.
→ Years of questions from a customer community could reveal problems generic meal plans miss.
→ A tested collection of substitutions could make the advice more useful when someone opens the fridge on a Wednesday night.
Those strengths are not interchangeable.
A proprietary process can make the experience more consistent. Unusual expertise can improve difficult decisions. A community can create useful feedback and participation. Accumulated work can make the product better from day one.
But each only counts if customers experience a benefit they care about.
Give ChatGPT a plain description of your idea, then add the assets you actually have. Ask it to explore how each asset could change the product.
Try this prompt:
My product idea is [simple description]. The customer is [who it serves], and the problem is [problem].
Here are assets I may be able to build on:
- My process: [describe it]
- My unusual expertise: [describe it]
- My community or customer relationships: [describe them]
- Work I have already accumulated: [research, examples, data, templates, or other material]
Suggest five ways these assets could make the product more useful and distinctive. For each, explain the customer benefit, what I would need to build or deliver, and what a competitor could still copy. Flag ideas that sound distinctive but offer little customer value. Do not assume these assets are valuable without evidence.
Look for an idea you can test with customers, then check whether they value the benefit enough to choose it over the simpler alternative.
Happy prompting!

Your company data could be worth $100k–$3 million
There's a new channel of revenue that has just been unlocked for companies with over 20 people that have been around longer than a year.
Few know it, but AI labs now let you monetize your company’s operational data, and they're spending $15 billion this year on it to train the next frontier of LLMs. Your workflows, documentation, processes, and internal convos like Slack are extremely valuable and they're paying anywhere from $100k to $3 million for it per company.
Before you ask, all the data is anonymized and cleaned before it's sent to a Lab. Bezel (Y combinator backed) helps find a data partner that is the best fit for you.
