AI can produce a convincing campaign plan in seconds. That speed is useful, but a polished plan may hide decisions nobody has made: which customer matters most, what the offer needs to achieve, and which trade-offs the business will accept.

Say you’re launching a service to both small businesses and larger teams. AI might suggest one broad message that speaks to everyone. The strategy decision is yours: focus on the audience with the clearest need, or spend more to test two distinct messages. AI can help compare those paths. It cannot know which bet your business should make unless you provide the evidence and constraints.

The same applies when you review its work. A headline can be clear and still promise more than the product delivers. A channel plan can look balanced and still ignore where your customers pay attention. These are judgment calls grounded in customer knowledge, performance data, and experience.

For your next campaign, write down the audience you’re prioritizing, the outcome you need, and one constraint you cannot ignore. Then use this prompt to compare two possible directions:

I’m planning a campaign for [product or service].

The audience I’m prioritizing is [audience]. What I know about their needs and behavior is [evidence or observations]. The campaign needs to achieve [outcome], and it must work within [budget, timing, brand, or other constraints].

Suggest two distinct campaign approaches. For each, explain the core message, why it might appeal to this audience, the main trade-off, and the assumptions that would need to be true for it to work. Identify what evidence I should check before choosing. If the information I’ve provided is too thin to make a useful comparison, tell me what’s missing rather than filling the gaps with guesses.

Check those assumptions against what you know, choose a direction, and record why. That decision gives AI something useful to work from when you move on to briefs and drafts.

Happy prompting!
