Use AI to do your competitive research
Smart marketers don’t rely on assumptions.
Most marketers waste hours stalking competitors online.
AI can do it in minutes.
Here’s how (it’s just 2 steps):
1 - Gather competitor content
Copy and paste website copy, ads, blog posts, and social media captions into a document for each competitor. ChatGPT can’t analyze full URLs, so you’ll need to extract key content manually.
🚨 This will be the most time-consuming part of this exercise. Shortcut: get someone on Upwork or Friverr to do this part.
2️ - Feed it to ChatGPT
Use this prompt:
You are a competitive marketing analyst. Below is marketing content from [Competitor A], [Competitor B], and [Competitor C], including website copy, ads, blog posts, and social media content. Analyze each competitor separately, then provide a comparative breakdown. Answer the following:
For each competitor:
- Brand Positioning → What key themes, messages, and value propositions are they emphasizing? How do they differentiate themselves?
- Tone & Style → What kind of language do they use? Is it casual, professional, authoritative, playful?
- Target Audience → Based on their messaging, who is their ideal customer?
- Key Content Themes → What topics do they focus on across blog and social content? Have any patterns emerged?
- Strengths & Weaknesses → What are they doing well, and where are the gaps in their strategy?
Comparative Analysis:
- Key similarities → Where do these competitors overlap in messaging, positioning, or audience targeting?
- Key differentiators → What makes each competitor unique, and how do they position themselves against the others?
- Market gap opportunities → Based on this analysis, what gaps exist in the market that we could take advantage of?
Happy prompting!
